In 2019, Rauna Municipal Council (currently Smiltene Municipality), together with Rundāle Municipality (currently Bauska Municipality) started to implement the project of Cross-border Co-operation Programme for 2014 – 2020 “Landscape as a Resource: Support to New Services and Tourism” (RUNRARO, LV-RU-052). The objective of the project: to increase the attraction of the vicinity of Rundāle and Rauna by stimulating more active and efficient use of the existing resources (cultural and historical heritage, local society, entrepreneurship) for the development of sustainable tourism offer.

One of the activities that were implemented within the framework of the project was the development of a mobile tourism guide, which enabled the visitors of Rauna to embark on a journey in time and to study the history of Rauna. It is possible to return in the past cy scanning the QR code and to experience the changes of Rauna Castle yard, investigate the objects of interest in Rauna and see historical photographs.

The total budget of the project is EUR 649,814. The co-funding of the project from the Cross-border Co-operation Programme for 2014 – 2020 is EUR 584,832.60. The budget contributed by Smiltene Municipality is EUR 197,762.00. The co-funding of the project for the activities of Smiltene Municipality from the Cross-border Co-operation Programme for 2014 – 2020 is EUR 177,985.80.
